Elmhurst University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor starting Fall 2024 in the Department of Music. The person in this position conducts the Wind Ensemble, administers all aspects of the band program, teaches classes in music education, works closely with the applied faculty and coordinates outreach and recruitment events in the area of bands.
Teach six courses per year
Teach Wind Ensemble
Teach Marching Band Techniques
Teach Music Technology for Music Educators
Experience and expertise of the successful candidate will play a role in determining teaching responsibilities.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Perform additional duties as assigned and required as a member of the Music Department faculty.
Master’s Degree in Music Education or Conducting with work in progress toward a terminal degree
Prior teaching experience at the college level
Strong interpersonal skills
Evidence of significant professional and scholarly experience and ability to attract and retain students
Experience in teaching at public school and college levels
Experience with coordinating outreach and recruitment events
Experience with technology trends in the music classroom
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object. Occasional evening and weekend obligations.
