Position Title: Language Arts Teacher, Grade 7 (Position through the end of this school year)
School of Vacancy: Newtown Middle School
Starting Date: Immediately
Salary Range: Per teacher contract
Responsibilities: The teacher will provide language arts instruction to 7th grade students as a member of a five person team and will perform other classroom teaching duty assignments consistent with the requirements of the position.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:
Current Language Arts/English Connecticut Certification
(endorsements 006, 015, or 215);
Interest in working in a high-performing district in a middle school
environment and commitment to promoting a positive culture;
Ability to work with others in attaining team objectives and
accomplishing interdisciplinary objectives for students, including technology integration;
Evidence of thorough understanding of unique needs of adolescents
and how their characteristics impact curriculum and instruction;
Evidence of expertise in working with children in a heterogeneous
classroom setting and ability to differentiate instruction;
Familiarity of and/or experience in teaching language arts and
understanding of best practices in language arts;
Familiarity and/or experience in utilizing small group instruction to
support a wide-range of learners;
Effective classroom management skills that promote a positive
Willingness to participate in collaborative lesson planning;
Strong written and verbal communication skills; and
Knowledge of effective MTSS practices.
