Applications are invited for appointment as a full professor in the Department of Clinical Neuroscience in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University. The recruited candidate will also assume the position as Director of the David and Lynn Nicholson Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research in Jupiter Florida. We are looking for a well-established researcher using model systems related to Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease with a strong history of funded research in prion diseases and their mechanistic relevance to human neurodegenerative disease, with a specific focus related to altered NAD homeostasis as a mechanism of disease and therapeutics. Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute
, located on the FAU Jupiter campus, adjacent to the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, the UF Scripps and Technology, and the Wilkes Honors College. The FAU community features outstanding research and training programs that involve a continuum of trainees moving from stellar high school volunteers to grant-funded postdoctoral fellows. The Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute building oversees the Neuroscience Graduate Program (NGP), only the second such program in the state of Florida.
The position provides 12 months of salary support and a generous start-up package, state-of-the art infrastructure, and access to multiple outstanding and shared core facilities including for behavioral analysis of mice and advanced cell imaging. The Institute is also home of a Nikon Center of Excellence, which provides advanced imaging technology and training using Nikon confocal and multi-photon platforms. The Center Director will advise the Institute Executive Director on the acquisition of leading technologies that can be shared by other investigators associated with the Center and the recruitment of additional Center faculty. Although teaching full academic courses will be optional, the hire will be expected to lecture in their general area of expertise and in courses associated with both the NGP and Department of Clinical Neuroscience. Service to the Institute, Department and College are also anticipated.
