Godsman Elementary provides a rigorous academic environment and strives toward individual student responsibility. The school follows the district’s Transitional Native Language Instructional (TNLI) model. We offer instruction in Spanish and English to Spanish speaking students through 5th grade resulting in biliteracy for those students. We use two sets of researched based strategies to ensure academic growth and language development. The Literacy Squared Strategies, in partnership with CU Boulder, is a set of strategies utilized during literacy instruction in both English and Spanish. Guided Language Acquisition by Design (GLAD) strategies are used for science, social studies and mathematics. These strategies allow students to understand content and to excel in these content areas. Professional development is provided to teachers who are new to Godsman. The learning day is longer at Godsman. Teachers in K-5 work eight hours and forty-five minutes. They are compensated for the additional time with extra pay. Each teacher has two planning time, one that is individual and self-direct. The second planning time is daily grade level planning time used for data analysis and instructional planning.
